Jay Rayner is a journalist, food critic and judge on Masterchef. He is also the food reporter on The One Show.

Jay worked as a journalist after graduating and wrote for The Observer and the Independent on Sunday. In 1992 he won Young Journalist of the Year at the British Press Awards.

As a food critic, Jay has judged on Masterchef, The Great British Waste Menu and Top Chef Masters. He was also on the panel of critics for the daytime cookery show Eating with the Enemy.

On the radio, Jay leads the BBC Radio 4 panel show, The Kitchen Cabinet. And for his contributions to the show Papertalk, audiences nominated him for two Sony Radio Awards and a Sony Gold award.

His first novel The Marble Kiss was a shortlist for the Author’s Club First Novel Award and his second, Day of Atonement, was a shortlist for the Jewish Quarterly Prize for Fiction. Macmillan published his first non-fiction book, Stardust Falling. Then, in 2004, this was followed by his third novel The Apologist, published in the US as Eating Crow, in 2004.

Jay Rayner hosts the Out to Lunch podcast in which he interviews a celebrity guest in each episode.
