In his prime, Michael Owen was highly regarded for his pace, opportunism, and agility. He is one of the greatest English and Premier League strikers of his generation.

Liverpool

Owen celebrated his seventeenth birthday by signing a professional contract with Liverpool. Michael scored on his debut against Wimbledon in 1997.

He won the Premier League Golden Boot and the PFA Young Player of the Year award. He retained the Premier League Golden Boot in 1998–99. Owen constantly moved from static positions to full speed in a split second.

Real Madrid

Owen joined Madrid during its Galácticos era and played alongside Ronaldo, Raúl, Luís Figo, Zinedine Zidane and his England teammate David Beckham.

Owen ended the 2004–05 season with thirteen goals in the Primera División. He had the season’s highest ratio of goals scored to number of minutes played.

International Career

Owen earned 89 caps for England and scored 40 goals. Michael is fifth in the list of all-time top scorers for the England team.

He played for England at the 1998, 2002 and 2006 FIFA World Cups and also the 2000 and 2004 UEFA European Championships. Owen scored goals in all but one of these tournaments.

TV Advertising & Endorsements

Owen starred in a series of adverts that charted his life and rise to fame. In 2001, Michael was the advertising face of breakfast cereal “Nestlé Sporties”. He also appeared in several adverts for the washing powder Persil, in a contract worth £1,000,000. Owen was one of the two cover athletes for Pro Evolution Soccer 2008. Michael Owen has been an ambassador of the Swiss watchmaker Tissot. He also had a contract with car manufacturer Jaguar.
