About

Down-to-earth, naturally funny and relaxed. Fern is an experienced presenter with a warmth and charm all her own.

TV Presenting

After working with a touring theatre company, Fern Britton began her broadcasting career in 1979 at Westward Television in Plymouth. She began as a continuity announcer and newsreader on the nightly local bulletin Westward Diary. When Westward lost its franchise in 1981, Britton moved to the local BBC headquarters as a presenter with Spotlight in the South West. She then moved to BBC One’s News After Noon where she became the BBC’s youngest-ever national news presenter.

She then went on to work at TVS in Southampton, co-hosting the South edition of the news programme Coast to Coast. She also presented Coast to Coast People, The Television Show, and Magic Moments.

Ready Steady Cook

Fern presented the award-winning Ready Steady Cook until 2000, when Ainsley Harriot took over. She presented more than 1,000 shows and created a cult following amongst an audience of 16 million fans.

This Morning

Fern was the co-host of This Morning for an entire decade, 1999 to 2009, alongside Philip Schofield.

Fern Britton is well versed in live reporting down the line, on location and in studio. She worked across the network as a presenter on Carlton Television’s After Five, BBC’s Breakfast Time, GMTV’s Top Of The Morning, as Entertainment Correspondent of London News Network’s London Tonight, and as a guest reporter for BBC1’s Holiday.

Cookery Writing

She published her first book, Fern’s Family Favourites, in 1998. The book is a collection of 60 of her favourite recipes and tips on preparing food for the busiest of cooks. The release of her second book Winter Treats and Summer Delights came in the following year.
