About

First Lady of Essex. Confident, sassy, multi-talented peroxide celebrity with a great ear for innuendo.

Theatre

After focusing on her television career, Denise returned to her first love, the theatre. She played Roxie Hart in Chicago in the West End. Then going on to star in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s one-woman show Tell Me On A Sunday.

Movie Star

Denise has also appeared in film, initially as Maureen in the crime comedy Love, Honour and Obey. She had a cameo tease as red head Alex, in the low-key Tube Tales in one of the four separate short films, based on the London Underground. Other directors included Ewan McGregor, Jude Law and Jarvis Cocker; while her part in “Horny” was directed by Lost In Space director Stephen Hopkins. Van Outen has played a small role in the romantic comedy Are You Ready For Love?.

In 2012, Van Outen was cast in the film of the Ray Cooney farce Run For Your Wife alongside Danny Dyer, Sarah Harding and Neil Morrissey.

The Big Breakfast

Denise is perhaps best known for presenting The Big Breakfast alongside co-host Johnny Vaughan.

The programme was distinctive for broadcasting live from a former lockkeepers’ cottages commonly referred to as “The Big Breakfast House”, or more simply, “The House”, located on Fish Island, in Bow in east London.

The show was a mix of news, weather, interviews, audience phone-ins and general features, with a light tone which was in competition with the more serious GMTV and even more serious BBC Breakfast programmes.

Comic Relief

In 2009 Denise van Outen climbed Mt Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief. Joining her on the climb were Girls Aloud members Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and Kimberley Walsh, Fearne Cotton, Ben Shephard, Gary Barlow, Ronan Keating, Alesha Dixon and Chris Moyles.
