Ben Miller is an actor, comedy writer and director. He is one half of the comedy double act Armstrong and Miller. He starred in Johnny English, The Prince and Me, and The Parole Officer.
Ben studied natural sciences at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge. He remained at Cambridge to study for a Ph.D. in quantum physics. In 1992 he met fellow Cambridge graduate Alexander Armstrong.
Together, Miller and Alexander Armstrong went on to write and star in the Channel 4 sketch show Armstrong and Miller.
Later they performed their first full-length show at the Edinburgh Fringe in 1994, and returned in 1996, whereupon they were nominated for the Perrier Comedy Award.
2010 was a big year for Miller, he and Armstrong won a BAFTA for The Armstrong and Miller Show, and he also made his directorial debut with the film Huge.
In 1998 Miller co-wrote MindGym, winner of the first BAFTA Interactive Entertainment Award for comedy, with Tim Wright and Adam Gee.
Miller starred in two consecutive series of the BBC sitcom The Worst Week of My Life, alongside Sarah Alexander, followed in 2006 by a three-part Christmas special. In 2007 he starred as James Lester in ITV’s sci-fi drama Primeval, and as Mr Jonathan in the Australian film Razzle Dazzle: A Journey Into Dance. He also starred in the hit BBC series Death in Paradise, where he played character DI Richard Poole.
From 2001 until 2007, Miller also provided the voice for the ITV Digital and now PG Tips Monkey, in a popular series of television advertisements featuring Johnny Vegas. And in 2006 he directed a television pilot, which subsequently became the first episode of Steve Coogan’s Comedy series Saxondale.
His face is still a familiar addition to the television scene and his entertaining speeches are in demand at company seminars nationwide.
