About

Endearing observational comic with an earthy charm. Star of QI and Jonathan Creek.

Alan is a stand-up comedian, writer and actor. He played the title role in Jonathan Creek and is a permanent panellist on QI, hosted by Stephen Fry.

Whitstable Labour Club

He began performing stand-up comedy in 1988 at the Whitstable Labour Club, and, in 1991, he was named Time Out’s Best Young Comic.

He continued touring and performing in the UK and Australia, winning the Edinburgh Festival Critics Award for Comedy, in 1994.

Jonathan Creek

Alan played the title role in Jonathan Creek, a character who works as a creative consultant to a stage magician while he solves seemingly supernatural mysteries through his talent for logical deduction and understanding of illusions.

Jonathan Creek brought Alan mainstream attention when the show won a BAFTA for Best Drama.

Jonathan’s trademark duffle coat worn in the first series was actually Alan’s own coat that he wore to the auditions, this helped him win the role as the writer and producers thought the coat suited the character.

The Alan Davies Show

Alan Davies co-wrote and starred in his own radio sitcom, The Alan Davies Show, in 1998, with cassettes of the show produced and released by the BBC.

In the show, Alan plays himself as a struggling actor. The series also featured Ronni Ancona and Alan Francis, who play his best friends.

QI

Alan is well-known to a much larger audience as the permanent panellist on the BBC Two quiz game QI.

He also contributed the four words “will this do Stephen?”, which appear after Stephen Fry’s foreword, to the QI book, The Book of General Ignorance .

Arsenal FC

Davies is a lifelong fan and season ticket holder of Arsenal FC. Davies also used to host the podcast “It’s Up For Grabs Now” which took a light-hearted look at goings on at the club. He is also a vegetarian. On 18 January 2011, he began hosting the new Arsenal Podcast “The Tuesday Club” with Ian Stone, Keith Dover, Tayo Popoola and Skint Records founder Damian Harris.
