Roots and Early Influences

Born in Thiene, Vicenza, Lorenzo Cogo’s culinary journey began in the heart of his family’s trattoria, where the love for food was ingrained in him from a young age. With a lineage of chefs preceding him, Lorenzo’s passion for cooking was nurtured by his father’s traditional trattoria and his grandfather’s culinary legacy.

Quest for Culinary Excellence

Driven by a thirst for knowledge and a desire to explore diverse culinary landscapes, Lorenzo embarked on a global odyssey to hone his skills. His journey took him to acclaimed kitchens across the world, from Melbourne’s Vue de Monde under Shannon Bennett to Sydney’s Marque Restaurant with Mark Best, and eventually to London’s The Fat Duck alongside Heston Blumenthal.

International Culinary Apprenticeships

Lorenzo’s culinary education extended beyond traditional European boundaries as he sought mentorship from culinary luminaries like Seiji Yamamoto in Tokyo and Victor Arguinzoniz at Asador Etxebarri in Spain. Under their guidance, he mastered the art of handling raw ingredients, embraced resourceful cooking techniques, and developed a profound respect for culinary traditions.

Return to Italy and Michelin Stardom

In 2010, Lorenzo’s journey came full circle when he returned to Italy and seized the opportunity to fulfill his dream of owning a restaurant. El Coq, located in Marano Vicentino, became the embodiment of his culinary vision, blending international influences with Italian traditions. Within a year of its opening, El Coq was awarded a Michelin star, affirming Lorenzo’s place among Italy’s culinary elite.

At El Coq, Lorenzo’s cooking reflects a harmonious fusion of global inspirations and his Italian heritage. Dishes like Cod with peas and candied cedar and Ravioli with garden trimmings showcase his innovative flair, while his reverence for high-quality ingredients echoes the lessons learned from his mentors around the world.

A Culinary Homecoming

After years of culinary exploration, Lorenzo has found his culinary home at El Coq in Vicenza, where his instinctive creativity and international influences converge to create unforgettable dining experiences.
