Larkin Cen grew up surrounded by the aromas and flavors of Chinese cuisine in his family’s Cardiff takeaway. Despite pursuing a career in law, his passion for Chinese food never wavered. He recognized the misrepresentation and underappreciation of Chinese cuisine in the UK, determined to challenge stereotypes and elevate its status.

From Law to the Kitchen

After appearing on Masterchef in 2012 and launching the premium delivery-only Chinese takeaway, Hokkei, Larkin realized his calling in the culinary world. Despite initial setbacks and a stint at The Celtic Manor, he aspired to establish his own culinary venture, ultimately founding Woky Ko Cargo in Bristol.

Creative Evolution

Woky Ko Cargo initially focused on high-quality renditions of classic Chinese takeaway dishes. However, Larkin’s innovative spirit led him to experiment with inventive and boundary-pushing creations, transcending the conventional boundaries of Asian cuisine.

Exploring Fusion and Authenticity

Embracing the cross-cultural influences of Asian cuisine, Larkin delved into dishes like ramen, blending Chinese and Japanese culinary traditions. While infusing creativity into his recipes, he remained dedicated to preserving the authenticity of traditional Chinese flavors and techniques.

A Resilient Visionary

Despite the challenges posed by the post-pandemic landscape, Larkin’s dedication to his craft remains unwavering. After temporarily closing his restaurants in 2022, he reopened Daily Noodles, continuing his journey of reshaping the landscape of Chinese cuisine in the UK.
