About

James Tanner is a celebrity chef and TV personality. He has appeared on many TV cooking shows.

It was James’ mother who taught him to cook. After finishing school he studied hotel management and then worked in the kitchens of several restaurants, often with his older brother Chris. He worked his way up through the ranks until the Roux brothers invited him to work in New York. On returning to England, James worked for the two Michelin-starred restaurant Lettonie in Bath, under Martin Blunos.

Own Restaurant

In 1999 James Tanner and his brother opened Tanners Restaurant in Plymouth.

In Spring 2006 he and his brother opened a second restaurant in Plymouth. The Barbican Kitchen is a brasserie sited within the Gin Distillery, a 500 year old building in the heart of Plymouth’s oldest area, The Barbican.

Celebrity Chef

His television career began in 2002 when James and his brother made their first TV appearance on a competition called Chef Stars. Shortly after that James joined the Ready Steady Cook team.

Tanner became a regular guest on Great Food Live, shot at the same studios as Ready Steady Cook.

James has made appearances on Saturday Kitchen and has also filmed his own series, alongside his brother Chris, entitled The Tanner Brothers. James also regularly appears as guest chef on This Morning.

In 2011 the Tanner brothers opened The Kitchen Cafe alongside The Barbican Kitchen. The cafe serves snack style foods as an offshoot from the brasserie style Barbican Kitchen.
