Rita Ora has been announced as the face of DKNY‘s Resort 2014 collection which was shot in Times Square, New York.
The Kosovo-born British singer follows friend Cara Delevingne as a representative of the brand, and was also recently unveiled as the face of Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon’s Material Girl clothing line.
Bushy-browed Delevingne, 20, was used by the brand to front its spring and autumn 2013 campaigns, but Rita, 22, appears to have taken the baton for the brand’s resort 2014 collection.
Tweeting a picture of the hoards of crowds that had gathered in Manhattan’s Times Square to watch her pose, Ora wrote: “Thank you bots for coming out!! Today was awesome you always crack me up! Didn’t even feel like work I love you! More then you’ll ever know… #DKNY #NYCNights #TimesSquare.”
The friends hosted a party for DKNY in London back in June to launch the brand’s Artworks project. Throughout the course of the evening, wannabe singer Cara (who looked a little worse for wear) joined Rita on stage for an impromptu performance. Rumours quickly surfaced that Cara’s behaviour had embarrassed Rita, leading the camera-friendly pair to fall out. Ora has since denied the claims, taking to Twitter to post the following comment: “I don’t know what all these stupid stories are about but Im always going to have my best friend @Caradelevingne I love you!”
In 2012, Rita Ora released her debut album, Ora, which debuted at number one in the United Kingdom. It spawned two number-one singles, “R.I.P.” and “How We Do (Party)”. She also reached peak position on the charts as a featured act on DJ Fresh’s “Hot Right Now”, making Ora the artist with the most number-one singles on the UK Singles Chart in 2012.
Ora has a mezzo-soprano vocal range. She was nominated for three awards at the 2013 BRIT Awards, including the Brit Award for Best British Breakthrough Act.
