About

Lauren Goodger, Tallia Storm, Melanie C, Michelle Keegan, Louise Thompson and Amy Childs are among the celebrities supporting this year’s Jeans for Genes Day campaign.

Taking place on September 20th 2013, Jeans for Genes Day asks the public to donate £1/£2 to wear their jeans for the day in order to raise money for Genetic Disorders UK and help the 1 in 25 children who have a genetic disorder in the UK.

Their associated health problems mean that genetic disorders are the biggest cause of death of children aged 14 years and under.

Taking place this year on Friday 20th September 2013, Jeans for Genes Day is the well-known annual fundraising event which simply asks the British public, children and adults alike to wear their jeans for the day and make a £1 / £2 donation.

Jeans for Genes Day funds the care and support of children with genetic disorders through its grant programme. In 2013, 23 charities will benefit from the funds raised on Jeans for Genes Day.

Jeans for Genes Day have been lucky enough to be supported by some of the UK’s most famous celebrity faces over the years including Robbie Williams, Amanda Holden, Kelly Osbourne, Katie Price, Coleen Rooney, Stacey Solomon and Christine Bleakley – to name just a few.

The 2013 Jeans for Genes Day charity t-shirt was created in collaboration with the Edinburgh College of Art; a competition was held to find a unique and striking design to represent Jeans for Genes Day 2013.

The winning design was chosen by a specialist Jeans for Genes Day panel, comprising of fashion experts from the UK’s leading retailers and popular style icons which included Coleen Rooney, Jaime Winstone, Louise Thompson, Tessa Hartman, Phil Wildbore and Nick Ede.

The winning t-shirt was designed by 22 year old Edinburgh College of Art student Milly Wood. Milly’s design draws on the very current SS13 oriental trend whilst incorporating identical twins and the double helix that exist in genetics.

This year’s t-shirt is now available to purchase (RRP £20.00) from www.jeansforgenesday.org – all proceeds from the t-shirt will go to Genetic Disorders UK who aim to change the world for children with genetic disorders.

“The Jeans for Genes brief was exciting as it required an element of problem solving – I worked hard to come up with an innovative design that linked the subject of genetics with a striking, fashion image that would look great on a t-shirt. Winning the competition really validated the sense of achievement I felt when I completed my design, and I’m thrilled to be working with such a high-profile charity that aids an amazing cause”, Said Milly Wood, the Jeans for Genes Day 2013 Campaign T-Shirt winner.
