Joss Stone grew up listening to 60s and 70s American soul music, artists such as Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin. As a result, she developed a soulful style like her idols.

Then in 2001, Joss auditioned for the BBC Television talent show, Star for a Night. After passing her audition, she sang Donna Summer’s “On the Radio” for the broadcast, and won the contest. She also won the TV programme, Steps to the Stars.

Joss rose to fame in late 2003 with her multi-platinum debut album, The Soul Sessions — an impressive debut that shortlisted for the 2004 Mercury Prize. Her second album, the similarly multi-platinum Mind Body & Soul, topped the UK Albums Chart for one week and spawned the top ten hit “You Had Me”, her most successful single on the UK Singles Chart to date.

Her third album, Introducing Joss Stone, achieved gold record status by the RIAA and yielded the second-ever highest debut for a British female solo artist on the Billboard 200, and became Stone’s first top five album in the US.

Joss Stone was photographed by Canadian rocker Bryan Adams for Phonak’s Hear the World initiative, raising global awareness for the topic of hearing and hearing loss.

Throughout her career, Joss Stone has sold 14 million albums worldwide, establishing herself as one of the best-selling artists of her time, best-selling soul artists of the 2000s and best-selling British artists of her time. Her first three albums have sold over 2,722,000 copies in the US, while her first two albums have sold over 2,000,000 copies in the UK.

Joss has earned numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award and two Brit Awards—winning the 2005 Brit Awards for Best British Female artist and Best British Urban act, and one Grammy Award.
