Duncan Goodhew

Duncan MBE is a former Olympic gold medal winning swimmer for Great Britain, a talented motivational speaker, and well-known television personality.

As a swimmer for Great Britain, Duncan Goodhew won Olympic gold and bronze medals at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow. He also captained the England swimming team. In addition to his swimming achievements he competed as a member of the British bobsleigh team at the 1981 European Championships.

As well as being famous for his sporting achievements, he has also appeared in a number of popular television shows including Dave Gorman’s Important Astrology Experiment.

In 2002, Goodhew’s 100 metre breaststroke gold medal achievement was ranked 99th in the British network Channel 4’s 100 Greatest Sporting Moments.

Duncan is also an accomplished author and respected motivational speaker. He has presented over 200 motivational speeches to many of Britain’s leading companies, including Exxon, Prudential, IBM and Coutts and set up an Executive Survival Clinic for Coopers and Lybrand.

On September 29, 2001, Goodhew participated in an international relay charity event off the coast of California from Santa Catalina Island to Santa Monica. Of the eight international relay teams participating, each team had one swimmer with MS. Goodhew swam on the same team as organizer and MS activist Taylor MH. Proceeds from the fund-raising were all donated to the Myelin Project.

One of the most respected figures in athletics and motivational speaking, Duncan Goodhew is in demand as an after dinner speaker for his sporting anecdotes and memories.
