About

Interior designer Kelly Hoppen has teamed up with Samsung to create the Samsung Home Innovation living space, a premium showcase of the brand’s latest home appliances, on display exclusively in Harrods.

The brand showcase features a number of products unique to Harrods, including Flexible Fridges and the NEO cooking series.

Kelly comments, ‘Our homes are so important to us – they are an expression of ourselves and places we eat, sleep, work and play. There is a natural synergy between design and innovation and it is important that the two work in harmony to create an enjoyable experience in your home. My aim with the Samsung Home Innovation space was to create a beautiful, sleek design in my signature neutral style that showed off these innovative products and created a luxury experience in the home.’

Samsung UK CEO : “Naturally we wanted to display our premium products in a premium way, so by working with Kelly Hoppen to create an amazing space and placing it in iconic store like Harrods, we have created an inspirational retail space that we feel will enhance our customers’ lives now and in the years to come.”

Daedalian were contacted by Kelly Hoppen Interiors – they had a fused tile with a platinum interlayer.  The tile was manufactured in Italy but the goods were needed in August when Italy goes on holiday.  We accepted the challenge of developing and manufacturing a similar style of tile and in a short time frame. When we enquired about procuring a substantial amount of platinum we found that it too was from Italy.  The design development then went down the avenue of testing back painted colours and with some outsourced expertise in paint we achieved a colour the designers were happy with.

The ‘lines’ of the tiles was another feature that required testing and development until the right finish was achieved.

Given the short time scale and product development required for this project the team hat Daedalian delivered as required and the final installtion was well received by the team at KHI and at the launchof Samsung’s flagship kitchen.

With the design development and manufacture all in house the finsh is entirely malable enabling other bespoke tiles in this theme to be manufactured easily – another dynamic product developed and added to the Daedalian range.

Kelly Hoppen is famous for using a neutral colour palette such as taupe and beige. Of her design philosophy she has said, “My philosophy has always remained the same, it’s about creating calm balanced environments based on Eastern cultures, ie order and creation of harmony. How people feel in a space is as important as the way it looks, one can’t be without the other to succeed.”

In 1996, she was awarded the Andrew Martin Interior Design Award by Andrew Martin International. She has subsequently won a number of other awards including European Woman Of Achievement in 2007, ELLE Decoration Award and Grazia Designer of the Year. In March 2009 Kelly was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2009 New Year Honours. The award was given for services to Interior Design. Kelly is an ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, the Government’s GREAT campaign and now works with UK Trade & Investment and other parts the government, as an adviser and mentor to small businesses.
