About

American designer Michael Kors has launched a long term partnership with the UN World Food Programme, which aims to provide assistance to those in need.

A newly launched partnership with Michael Kors aims to shed light on the continuing plight of the world’s hungry and to raise awareness throughout the fashion and global communities.

To accomplish this, Michael Kors, a world-renowned fashion designer, and his namesake company will support WFP’s work through a combination of awareness-focused campaigns, special events and limited-edition fundraising products.

“We look forward to working with Michael Kors. Together, we will generate more attention as well as much needed resources in support of WFP’s efforts to end world hunger,” WFP’s Executive Director Ertharin Cousin said.

Kors is to raise money and awareness of the programme through a series of campaigns and events, marked by the launch of two unisex watches in March 2013 under the slogan Watch Hunger Stop.

Kors’ company announced in 2013 that helping solve global hunger would be the centre of its philanthropic platform.

“I am so proud to be joining the World Food Programme in one of the greatest global fights of our time – the battle to end hunger,” Kors said.“Millions of people all over the world are struggling to feed themselves, and their families, every day. I want to lend my voice and my efforts to this international cause.”

A public service announcement released across Michael Kors’ social media channels launched the partnership in January 2013. Featuring notable figures from fashion, music and film stating statistics about global hunger, the PSA helped spread awareness about hunger issues beyond just the global fashion community.

Support from committed partners like Michael Kors is critical to WFP’s work. In addition to helping WFP provide life-saving food assistance, partners like Kors allow us to reach even greater audiences with the important message that hunger is the world’s greatest solvable problem.

Among the celebrities who have worn Michael Kors’ designs are Jennifer Lopez, Rachel McAdams, Michelle Obama, Elissa, Heidi Klum, and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Joan Allen wore his gown when she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the The Contender. In addition, Jennifer Garner wore a custom creation as an Academy Award presenter in 2006.

In 2010, Kors received the Oliver R. Grace Award for Distinguished Service in Advancing Cancer Research, an annual honor bestowed by the Cancer Research Institute, a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing immune system-based treatments for cancer.
