Using only sticky tape and chalk to help him, which he kept in a pouch clipped to his waist, Alain Robert conquered the 75-storey (1007ft) Cayan Tower in the emirates glamorous marina area.

Hundreds of spectators gathered to watch the 52-year-old complete the incredible task.

Alain, who has suffered numerous falls during previous climbs, completed the gruelling climb in just an hour and a half. The climb was captured on video and shows the daredevil ascending at 8.25pm without a harness while struggling to find space for his feet on the narrow ledges of the tower, which twists as it ascends.

One of Alain’s biggest worries was the numbness that can take over his fingertips and thumb during a climb like this. He says, “The last part of the building the storeys are much higher and I could feel that it was cutting my fingers and was painful. My thumb started to get numb because when it is sharp you are also pressing on some nerves and then step-by-step I could really feel numbness in some of my fingers.”

In 2011 Alain climbed the world’s tallest tower in Dubai. Using a rope and harness to comply with organizers’ requirements, it took him just over six hours to scale the 2,717-foot (828 meter) tall Burj Khalifa.
