Loose Women star Denise Welch has been announced as celebrity ambassador for LighterLife, and is to work with the brand to lose weight in the lead up to her July 2013 wedding.

She’s desperate to get into shape ahead of her July wedding to Lincoln Townley. She commented on Twitter that she’s teamed up with LighterLife to fight off those stubborn pounds.

‘Delighted to say that I’m the new face (or bum) of Lighterlife!!’ the mum-of-two typed, ‘Met the lovely team today. July wedding looming!’

The 54-year-old Loose Women star will shed the pounds through a combination of low calorie Foodpacks and weekly counselling sessions, which aim to help people keep the weight off permanently.

Speaking about her new role, Denise said: ‘I am delighted to be joining the LighterLife team. I am looking forward to losing weight in a steady and healthy way with a group of like-minded people.

‘The LighterLife programme fits into my busy lifestyle and I look forward to celebrating a new slimmer and more confident me.’

Denise was inspired to sign up for the programme after her celebrity friends Pauline Quirke and Linda Robson’s incredible success on the 500 calorie-a-day plan.

Pauline famously lost a staggering 8.5 stone on the programme back in 2011, and said at the time that she ‘never feels hungry’.

She added: ‘The thing they’re strict about is the whole counselling thing. Once a week we have our group support sessions. So if you’re wavering a bit, you know you’re not alone.’

Seeing Pauline’s success on the plan, her former Birds Of A Feather co-star Linda Robson was inspired to give it a go, and lost an impressive 3.5 stone herself.

Denise and PR boss Lincoln, 40, have certainly had something of a whirlwind relationship since meeting a year ago, shortly after Denise split from her husband Tim Healy following 24 years of marriage.

The pair got engaged in August after Lincoln popped the question during a romantic trip to Nice.
