Clive Tyldesley is a renowned sports commentator, television presenter, and voiceover artist, best known as ITV’s lead football commentator since 1998.
His broadcasting career began in local radio in Nottingham before he moved to Liverpool’s Radio City in 1977. He succeeded Elton Welsby as sports editor and started commentating during the late 1970s and early 1980s, notably covering Everton F.C.’s rise to prominence. Tyldesley was also on-air during the 1985 European Cup Final, reporting from the scene of the Heysel disaster.
In the late 1980s, he joined Granada Television, where he provided commentary for the programmes Kick Off and Granada Soccer Night.
In 1992, Tyldesley moved to the BBC to commentate on Match of the Day and Sportsnight, covering Premier League highlights.
Returning to ITV, he became the network’s principal football commentator, succeeding Brian Moore. He has since covered major football events, including three World Cup finals (2002, 2006, 2010), two European Championship finals (2000, 2004), and five FA Cup finals (1999, 2000, 2001, 2009, 2010). Additionally, he provided commentary on Champions League victories for Manchester United and Liverpool.
Tyldesley has contributed to popular video games, partnering with Andy Gray for commentary on EA Sports’ FIFA series from FIFA 06 to FIFA 09. He also provided commentary for Championship Manager 2, This is Football, and FA Premier League Stars 2001.
Known for his engaging storytelling, Tyldesley is a sought-after speaker on the after-dinner circuit, where he offers insightful anecdotes from the Premier League and international football.
