Heston Blumenthal OBE: Celebrity Chef
In Detail
Heston Blumenthal is widely recognised as one of the most innovative chefs in the culinary world. As the chef-proprietor of The Fat Duck in Berkshire, he has transformed modern dining with his scientific approach to food. Since opening in 1995, The Fat Duck earned its first Michelin star in 1999 and has retained three Michelin stars since 2004, being named “Best Restaurant in the World” at one point.
Heston’s love for cooking began at a young age, inspired by a family visit to Provence. Though he initially worked in his parents’ finance company as a debt collector, he pursued his culinary passion through self-education and experimentation. His contributions to gastronomy were recognised with numerous awards, including the Good Food Guide’s Chef of the Year in 2002 and an honorary degree from Reading University in 2006. Besides The Fat Duck, he has opened additional restaurants, including The Hinds Head and The Crown at Bray, and Dinner by Heston Blumenthal in London, which received a second Michelin star in 2014.
