Sir Matthew Pinsent (CBE) is one of Britain’s most distinguished athletes, renowned for winning gold medals at four consecutive Olympic Games. As an accomplished English rower, he boasts a remarkable career, including 10 world championship gold medals and numerous accolades in the world of rowing.
Pinsent’s international career began at the Junior World Rowing Championships in 1987, where he made his mark by winning the junior coxless pairs with Tim Foster in 1988. His most notable achievement came in 2000, where he won Olympic gold as part of a formidable coxless four alongside rowing legends Steve Redgrave, James Cracknell, and Tim Foster. In 2004, he published his biography, A Lifetime In Race, and announced his retirement from rowing on 30 November 2004. He was made a Knight Bachelor in the New Year’s Honours list on 31 December 2004, having previously been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1993 and elevated to Commander in 2001. In 2005, he received the prestigious Thomas Keller Medal from the International Rowing Federation.
