Early Career

Martine’s journey in the entertainment industry began at the young age of 12 when she was cast in an American television commercial for Kool-Aid, earning £350 for her appearance. This initial success opened the door to modeling opportunities and small acting roles, including parts in the ITV police drama The Bill.

By 15, she had formed an all-girl music group called Milan with two classmates. The group achieved moderate success, managing to enter the dance charts three times and even touring as the warm-up act for the boyband East 17.

Breakthrough with EastEnders

In 1994, while working as a shop assistant, Martine landed the role of Tiffany Raymond in EastEnders. Taking advice from her mother, she developed the character, which resonated with audiences and grew in popularity. Her departure from the show in 1998 drew a staggering 22 million viewers, marking her as a household name in the UK.

Music Career

In 1999, Martine transitioned to music, signing with Virgin Records. Her debut single, “Perfect Moment,” topped the UK Singles Chart, marking a successful entry into her solo music career. She followed this success with two more Top 10 hits: “I’ve Got You” and “Talking in Your Sleep,” the latter featuring the re-recorded track “Love Me” for the Children in Need appeal. Martine’s acting career continued to flourish as she appeared in ITV’s The Knock and the British film Kiss Kiss (Bang Bang) in 2000. Her portrayal of Eliza Doolittle in the stage production of My Fair Lady at the National Theatre in London earned her the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical in 2002.

In 2003, she achieved further acclaim with a notable role in the romantic comedy Love Actually, where she played Natalie, a tea lady who captures the heart of the British Prime Minister, portrayed by Hugh Grant. The film was both a critical and commercial success, and Martine’s performance earned her the MTV Movie Award for Best Trans-Atlantic Breakthrough Performer.

Later Projects

In 2006, Martine expanded her brand by appearing in a series of advertisements for the supermarket chain Tesco, promoting a new green initiative for recycling plastic bags.
