Fiona Bruce is a trailblazing journalist and presenter who has shattered numerous broadcasting barriers throughout her career. She holds the distinction of being the first woman to present the BBC Ten O’Clock News and to host a general election results programme.

Career Highlights:

Fiona’s career at the BBC began in 1990 as a researcher and assistant producer for Panorama. She transitioned to reporting for BBC Breakfast news in 1992 before moving on to reporting and presenting for BBC South East. Fiona’s versatility and talent led her to various roles, including reporting for BBC Two’s Public Eye and returning to Panorama as a reporter.

In 1999, Fiona made history by becoming the first woman to present the Six O’Clock News before later taking on the role of presenting the Ten O’Clock News in 2003. Her tenure as the first woman presenter of the programme marked a significant milestone in broadcasting. She returned to presenting the BBC News at Six in 2007, a position she held for the next 11 years.

Fiona’s diverse portfolio also includes co-hosting Crimewatch and presenting and reporting for the BBC One current affairs series Real Story. In 2008, she added presenting Antiques Roadshow to her repertoire.

In 2019, following David Dimbleby’s retirement, Fiona made history once again as the first woman to host BBC Question Time. Her impressive career also encompasses writing and presenting documentaries on various topics, from profiles of prominent figures like Cherie Blair to explorations of historical figures like Queen Victoria and Leonardo da Vinci.

Books:

Fiona co-wrote “Savvy!: The Modern Girl’s Guide to Doing It All Without Risking It All” in 2008, offering practical advice for navigating the challenges of modern life.

Awards and Recognition:

Fiona’s contributions to current affairs programming have been widely acclaimed, earning her five awards from the Royal Television Society for her work on Real Story. She has also been recognised as Newscaster/Reporter of the Year and News Presenter of the Year at the Television and Radio Industry Awards.

In addition to her professional accolades, Fiona was inducted into the NSPCC Hall of Fame in 2009 for her support and work with the children’s charity. She was also made a Freeman of the City of London in 2014.

Personal Life:

Fiona is married with two children and is actively involved in charitable endeavours, serving as an honorary vice president of Vision Overseas Aid and advocating for Women’s Aid.
