Dharshini David is a highly experienced broadcaster and economist, known for her expertise in financial news. In July 2023, she was appointed Chief Economics Correspondent for BBC News, where she covers critical economic stories and explains complex financial concepts to general audiences.

Career Highlights:

Dharshini began her professional journey as a government economist, later transitioning to the trading floor at HSBC Investment Bank as their Senior UK Economist. In 2000, she joined the BBC as an economics correspondent, contributing to national news bulletins on BBC One, BBC News 24, and BBC World, and also presenting on Panorama.

In 2006, Dharshini moved to New York as BBC New York Business Presenter, where she reported on the emerging credit crunch from Wall Street and presented World Business Report. Two years later, she joined Tesco as Head of Broadcast, advising the board on broadcast media relations and providing media training for directors.

In 2009, Dharshini returned to London as a business and economics correspondent for Sky News, where she also presented business and general news programs. She then took a break from broadcasting to work as an economic consultant at Daiwa Capital Markets and served on the Financial Services Consumer Panel of the Financial Conduct Authority.

Dharshini rejoined the BBC in 2018 as Senior Economics Correspondent, and in 2020, she became the BBC’s first Global Trade Correspondent. She also serves as Chief Business Presenter for Radio 4’s Today programme.
