David Coulthard is a Scottish former Formula One driver who transitioned into a successful career as a presenter, commentator, and journalist. He debuted in Formula One in 1994 and achieved 13 Grand Prix victories over 15 seasons, including two notable wins at Monaco. Coulthard raced alongside Mika Häkkinen during McLaren Mercedes’ back-to-back Drivers’ Championship-winning seasons, contributing to the team’s success. His best individual season finish was second place in the 2001 Drivers’ Championship. After leaving McLaren, he helped establish Red Bull Racing, where he continued to race and play a foundational role in the team’s growth.
Following his retirement from Formula One, Coulthard remained active in the motorsport world. He joined the Red Bull Racing team as a consultant and also entered broadcasting, beginning as a BBC commentator and co-commentator alongside Martin Brundle from 2011. In 2016, he moved to Channel 4 as a commentator and analyst when the network acquired the UK broadcast rights.
Outside of Formula One, Coulthard raced in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) series with Mücke Motorsport, driving a Mercedes C-Class in 2010 and 2011, where his teammate was fellow former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher. Coulthard’s contributions to motorsport earned him an MBE in the 2010 Birthday Honours. In 2019, he further cemented his legacy within the racing community by becoming president of the British Racing Drivers’ Club.
