Early Life and Education

Dave attended Barrow-in-Furness Grammar School for Boys before pursuing a fine art degree at Goldsmiths, University of London. He later earned a master’s degree in art history. Following his academic achievements, Dave became a professional make-up artist, specializing in prosthetics. His career took a turn in 1995 when he met Simon King on the set of the TV drama The Gambling Man, leading to their iconic partnership.

The Hairy Bikers

The Hairy Bikers gained fame with their BBC show, The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook, where they combined cooking with travelogue elements, reminiscent of the style popularized by Keith Floyd. Their engaging personalities and shared passion for food quickly resonated with audiences.

Notable TV Work

In 2009, Dave and Simon hosted The Hairy Bikers’ Food Tour of Britain, a 30-part daytime series on BBC Two. Each episode featured them visiting a different county in the UK and cooking what they believed to be that county’s signature dish, showcasing the rich culinary diversity of Britain.

In 2010, they took their show on the road with the Big Night Out, a theatre tour directed by Bob Mortimer. This live show combined cooking, anecdotes about their youth, and musical performances, offering fans a unique and entertaining experience.

Following a new contract with the BBC in 2011, the duo launched The Hairy Bikers’ Bakeation, which featured a gastronomic road trip across Europe, focusing on the best baking traditions of various countries.

In 2013, Dave participated in the eleventh series of Strictly Come Dancing, partnering with professional dancer Karen Hauer. His involvement in the show highlighted his charismatic personality and willingness to embrace new challenges.

In February 2014, the Hairy Bikers embarked on The Hairy Bikers’ Asian Adventure, exploring the diverse cuisines of Asia. The series followed a similar format to their previous shows, emphasizing local dishes, cultural interactions, and the joy of cooking.
