Christian Jessen is a well-known British doctor and television presenter, best recognized for his work on Channel 4’s Supersize vs Superskinny and Embarrassing Bodies. Alongside co-presenters Pixie McKenna and Dawn Harper, he gained popularity for his insightful and compassionate approach to health and weight management.


Early Career and Education

Christian Jessen’s educational journey began at University College London, where he studied medicine and graduated with his MBBS degrees in 2000. His medical interests are vast, particularly in sexual health, HIV, and malaria, which led him to spend two years working in Kenya and Uganda. He also holds a Master’s degree in sexual health (MSc). Alongside his television career, Jessen continues to work in the field of sexual health and HIV and provides occupational health services for London Underground and Virgin Trains.

Jessen’s career also includes working privately in the UK oil and gas industry, as well as with the Australian, New Zealand, and Canadian immigration services.


Television Career

Christian Jessen’s career in television took off with his role as presenter of Supersize vs Superskinny, a show that contrasts the lives of an overweight person and an underweight person. The two participants live together for five days, swapping diets under Jessen’s supervision in a feeding clinic. This program brought him significant fame, with Jessen’s practical and empathetic approach to medical advice becoming one of the show’s key draws.

He later became one of the faces of Embarrassing Bodies, where he addressed a variety of often uncomfortable health issues with sensitivity and professionalism.

Following the success of Supersize vs Superskinny, Jessen wrote the accompanying book, Supersize vs Superskinny: Take Control of Your Weight, and also penned Can I Just Ask, a book based on unusual medical questions he receives, which was published by Hay House.

Jessen has made regular appearances on various talk shows and quiz programmes such as 8 Out of 10 Cats, Loose Women, Celebrity Juice, and Sunday Brunch, expanding his television presence.


Personal Interests and Achievements

Outside of his medical and television work, Christian Jessen is a talented musician, playing the oboe, and he also has a passion for antique bronzes. In 2010, he won a celebrity edition of the quiz show Antiques Master, with his specialist subject being antique bronzes.

Jessen’s articulate and informed approach to presenting and his engaging personality make him a popular figure for personal appearances and a sought-after endorser for a variety of products and services.
