Sir Chris Hoy is renowned as the most successful male Olympic cyclist of all time and Scotland’s most decorated Olympian. His remarkable career includes becoming the first Briton since 1908 to win three gold medals in a single Olympic Games, cementing his place in sporting history.
Career Highlights
- Early Career: Hoy began his cycling journey in BMX racing from ages 7 to 14, achieving impressive rankings, including second in Britain, fifth in Europe, and ninth in the world. He received sponsorship from Slazenger and Kwik-Fit and joined his first cycling club, Dunedin CC, in 1992. Hoy shifted focus to track cycling in 1994, joining the City of Edinburgh Racing Club.
- Olympic Success: Hoy’s track cycling career reached its pinnacle at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, where he won three gold medals, making him the first Briton since 1908 to achieve this feat in a single Games.
