Chris Boardman is a celebrated former professional cyclist who became a household name after winning a gold medal in the individual pursuit at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. This triumph brought him widespread recognition and an MBE. Following his Olympic success, Chris continued to excel, securing numerous national titles and setting a world record. At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, he earned a bronze medal in the Individual Time Trial. In 1994, Chris tackled cycling’s ultimate challenge, the Tour de France, and claimed three titles at the World Championships.
In 2007, Chris launched his own range of bikes, BOARDMAN Bikes, where he serves as chairman. Beyond his cycling achievements, Chris has held prominent roles in promoting active travel and sports. He was appointed as National Active Travel Commissioner in June 2022 and previously served as Transport Commissioner for Greater Manchester and the first-ever Greater Manchester Cycling and Walking Commissioner. Chris also chairs Sport England and is a well-known broadcaster for BBC and ITV.
