Early Career

Jonathan Creek

Alan is perhaps best known for his iconic role in Jonathan Creek, where he played the title character—a creative consultant for a stage magician who uses his skills in logical deduction to solve seemingly supernatural mysteries. The show received mainstream acclaim and won a BAFTA for Best Drama, significantly elevating Alan’s profile in the industry. Interestingly, the character’s trademark duffle coat was actually Alan’s own, which he wore to the auditions and helped him secure the role.
